Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 10, 2025

🔒 Privacy First Approach

Your writing stays on your device. We don't store or collect remotely your documents, notes, or writing content. Everything is saved locally in your browser. Of course, your text has to leave your device temporarily for processing by AI providers like OpenAI and Anthropic.

Information We Don't Collect

Walnut Writer is designed with privacy by design. We do NOT collect or store remotely:

How AI Processing Works

When you use AI features (suggestions, autocomplete, grammar correction), here's what happens:

AI Request Process:

  1. Your text is sent temporarily to AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Cerebras) via Vercel AI Gateway
  2. The AI processes your request and returns a response
  3. Everything is returned to your browser and stored locally

Third-Party AI Providers

We use the following AI providers through Vercel AI Gateway:

Local Storage

The following information is stored locally in your browser (not on our servers):

You can clear this data anytime through your browser settings or by clearing the app's local storage.

Analytics and Monitoring

We use privacy-focused analytics to improve the app:

These services collect only technical metrics necessary for app functionality and performance improvements.

Data Security

Your Rights

Since we don't collect personal data, traditional data rights don't apply, but you have complete control:

Children's Privacy

Walnut Writer is safe for users of all ages since we don't collect personal information. However, parents should supervise children's use of AI features and internet access.

Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We'll update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Walnut Writer after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
